How Mikkel is closing the gap

“We are in a position to have an impact”

Explore why Mikkel Eskildsen, architect and director at Henning Larsen (part of the Ramboll Group), is strongly committed to environmental responsibility by integrating climate adaptation strategies into his projects.
“Every month, around the world, our industry is constructing cities the size of Manhattan” states Mikkel, who understands the importance of climate-adapted architecture. “We have an obligation and an opportunity to make sure this is designed in the most intelligent and sustainable way possible”. Architecture and climate adaptation are closely linked in the creation of functional and sustainable buildings suitable for a changing climate. Throughout Mikkel’s 15-year career, he has worked in creating progressive and regenerative projects. For Mikkel, sustainability is much more than a buzzword: “It’s a matter of realising that we are in a position to have an impact”. Currently, Mikkel is the design responsible for one of the largest timber projects in Denmark.

Architecture can provide a vital solution to the challenges posed by climate change, a task that is close to Mikkel’s heart. “I think everybody has the ambition to leave a legacy. When I consider our talented colleagues working together across disciplines to solve complex challenges, I can sleep soundly knowing that we have made a difference. That thought puts a smile on my face”, says Mikkel.
