Full circle solutions to enable zero harm

The everyday activities that underpin our industrialised and urbanised world, increasingly impact both human health and safety as well as the natural world around us. From how and where we live and work, to the air we breathe and the water we drink.

As a company, we helped define and today continue to lead in the fields of human health, safety and risk assessment, and industrial hygiene. Our experts in risk assessment, process safety, and risk management work with clients to advance their health and safety culture including the concepts of zero harm. We work across disciplines such as climate change, air quality, circular economy, waste reduction and construction management to provide unique, holistic solutions to clients.

There are many potential impacts and risks of business, industry, and development on human health and environmental quality. Our specialists work in interdisciplinary global teams that help clients meet their operational goals, improving production and work procedures.

Portfolio in health, safety and risk

Ramboll supports industrial, commercial and governmental clients to solve health, safety and risk concerns across a broad range of issues and situations. Clients around the world benefit from our blend of high technical skills and knowledge of local requirements and practices.

Human health and environmental risk assessment

For more than 30 years, we have helped define and lead this field. We develop and integrate complex evidence to inform discussion, manage uncertainty and support decisions.

Regulatory authorisation

We have helped clients obtain regulatory authorisations under REACH, respond to the unique health challenges presented by COVID 19, and assess and manage emerging contaminants such as PFAS. Our experience includes litigation and non litigation regulatory and technical expert services.

Risk assessment

Our expert are at the forefront of developing risk assessment methods, models and frameworks to inform regulatory decisions. We help estimate health protective exposure limits, including for chemicals and other materials that have not yet been regulated.

Identify and address health & safety concerns

In workplaces and indoor environments, uncertainties about chemical, biological and physical exposures can affect employee health and wellbeing and increase business risk through regulatory impacts, litigation, and reputational damage. Our industrial hygienists, toxicologists, epidemiologists and health scientists perform risk assessments, develop practical controls and partner with our clients to respond to health and safety concerns and provide safe workplaces and buildings.

EHS compliance & risk management systems

  • Analysis of current and emerging national and international EHS regulations, issues and standards
  •  EHS training
  •  Evaluating EHS investments to ensure cost effective risk management
  • Analytical decision making
  • Evaluating environmental reserves.

Quantified risk analysis

For construction and building sites, we use quantified risk analysis, which involves detailed modelling of event probabilities and consequences with a view to mitigating risks and maximising safety throughout a project be it transport, energy, infrastructure, communications or property development from instigation to decommissioning. Our expertise includes advanced data evaluation, innovative mathematical modelling and disciplines such as fire engineering.

Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances – commonly known as PFAS chemicals – are an increasing focus of regulatory agencies and the general public, and the subject of progressively more stringent standards. Used in everything from industrial processes to non-stick cookware and water-repellent fabric, PFAS do not easily degrade and some may persist in the environment for decades.
