Enabling advanced manufacturing at scale
The LEGO Group has established Kornmarken Campus as its first dedicated manufacturing innovation centre, designed to accelerate how new production technologies are developed, tested and implemented across its global operations.
Integrated with the existing factory in Billund, the campus forms part of a 100,000 m² production environment where innovation can be advanced without disrupting live manufacturing.
Ramboll supported the design of the campus, including a Test & Innovation Centre and supporting facilities, as well as environmental permitting, infrastructure planning, and traffic analysis.

Kornmarken Campus brings critical manufacturing capabilities into one integrated platform, including:

- Exploration of advanced manufacturing methods
This set-up enables a faster transition from concept to industrial scale, improving production efficiency, flexibility and quality across LEGO’s global manufacturing network.
Supporting future-ready, decarbonised production
The campus is designed to support continuous optimisation of manufacturing processes while enabling innovation at scale. Dedicated facilities allow experimentation to take place alongside stable production, reducing operational risk and downtime.
Sustainability is integral to both the design and construction of Kornmarken Campus. Targeting LEED Platinum certification, the facility combines low-carbon materials, energy-efficient systems, renewable energy, rainwater management and design measures that promote a healthy indoor environment and a stronger connection to nature.
A 22,000 m² mass timber structure helps reduce the building’s environmental footprint by storing carbon within the construction, while a nearby 4 MW solar park partly powers the campus.
As a part of the campus, Ramboll has delivered an energy building that houses utility systems for cooling, compressed air, and district heating, supplying the entire Teat & Innovation Centre and the office facilities. All heating for the building complex is supplied through heat recovery from the cooling plant and compressed air systems.
Ramboll is also responsible for the LEED certification, supported by an extensive commissioning process to help verify performance and ensure the campus operates as intended.
