Principal Landscape Planner - with LVIA experience

We are seeking a talented Principal Landscape Planner to join our growing, 18-strong team of landscape architects and landscape planners. Ideally, the role would be based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices; however, other office locations can be discussed on an individual basis.

Your new role 

You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment where, as a Principal Landscape Planner, you will be expected to develop technically robust deliverables and projects and consider creative and innovative approaches for development of optimum outcomes for people, nature and the environment. 

Ramboll has a large in-house environmental team, and we work collaboratively with them to find effective, original mitigation and design solutions. As a Principal Landscape Planner, your key tasks and responsibilities will be: 

• Apply advanced landscape planning and assessment expertise to identify issues, analyse complex information and develop robust, practical solutions. 
• Take responsibility for substantial landscape components and larger aspects of the problem-solving process, from research and assessment through to recommendations and implementation. 
• Lead and coordinate defined landscape workstreams, ensuring technically accurate, high-quality outputs are delivered to programme. 
• Undertake research, data collection, site visits, technical photography and landscape assessments, applying sound professional judgement and relevant technical guidance. 
• Interpret landscape and visual information to identify effects, risks, constraints and opportunities, and translate findings into clear recommendations. 
• Prepare and present accurate, persuasive written, graphic and technical materials for clients, stakeholders, decision-makers and multidisciplinary teams. 
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and external consultants; support senior colleagues and provide technical guidance, with briefing, coaching and day-to-day support to less experienced staff. 
• Manage workloads with limited supervision, taking responsibility for deliverables, quality, programme and communication, while contributing technical knowledge to proposals, resource planning, process improvements and efficient use of professional standards and digital tools.

• Master’s or postgraduate qualification in landscape architecture or a related discipline, ideally from a Landscape Institute-accredited course. 
• Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute or equivalent professional accreditation. 
• Well-developed experience in landscape architecture, planning, landscape and visual impact assessment (experience of working on wind farm projects is highly desirable). 
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving and consultancy skills, including identifying issues, assessing options and developing robust recommendations. 
• Ability to lead and coordinate significant landscape workstreams and take responsibility for quality and timely delivery. 
• Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, professional practice, legislation and technical guidance. 
• Excellent written, graphic, presentation and communication skills when working with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams. 
• Ability to manage workloads independently, support senior colleagues, mentor junior staff and use relevant software, including Microsoft Office, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk and/or Revit. 

You are a creative and analytical landscape professional with sound professional judgement and the ability to contribute effectively across a wide range of projects and stages. You will work as a key member of the national landscape and environment teams, collaborating with colleagues, clients, external experts and other disciplines to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
