Role Purpose
The Head of AI – Buildings is responsible for accelerating the application of artificial intelligence across Ramboll’s Buildings Global Business Area to materially improve project delivery, productivity, and client outcomes. Working across a global organisation, the role bridges strategy and hands-on delivery — ensuring that AI is not only defined at a strategic level but is systematically translated into practical, adopted solutions embedded within projects, disciplines, and service lines.
The role owns AI application within Buildings and leverages Ramboll Tech platforms and products to deliver scalable impact across the business. As a member of the Buildings Innovation and Digital Transformation (IDT) Leadership Team, the role partners closely with Ramboll Tech, Global Technical Networks, and project delivery teams across geographies to identify high-value opportunities, develop and scale AI-enabled solutions, and establish the conditions for responsible, rapid, and sustainable adoption at scale. Engagement is primarily virtual, with targeted travel as required to support major projects, strategic initiatives and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drive AI-Enabled Project Delivery Transformation
- Engage directly with engineering teams, project leaders and clients across geographies to identify where AI can improve planning, design, coordination, assurance, and handover.
- Translate real project challenges into targeted AI-enabled interventions that improve productivity, quality and consistency.
- Embed AI into core delivery workflows, ensuring solutions are practical, usable and aligned with project realities.
- Support major bids and strategic projects by shaping compelling AI-enabled delivery approaches and differentiators.
2. Build and Scale AI Solutions Across the Portfolio
- Lead the identification, prioritisation and development of high-value AI and automation use cases across Buildings.
- Drive the journey from concept → pilot → scaled adoption, ensuring proven solutions are embedded into wider project portfolios and service lines.
- Establish repeatable approaches to scaling, including reusable components, patterns and playbooks.
- Champion a “fail fast, scale what works” culture to maximise impact and speed of learning.
3. Lead Multidisciplinary AI Delivery Capability
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams spanning engineering, data science, software development, and product management.
- Work closely with Ramboll Tech teams to ensure the infrastructure, tools and environments required to deliver AI solutions are fit for purpose.
- Enable effective collaboration between central capabilities and project delivery teams, ensuring a seamless connection between technology and application.
- Provide direction on agile ways of working to accelerate delivery of AI-enabled solutions into live environments.
4. Establish the Conditions for Adoption and Impact
- Build and nurture networks, communities of practice and AI ambassadors across Buildings to drive literacy, adoption and innovation.
- Ensure successful pilots translate into sustained adoption by addressing barriers such as process, governance, capability and tooling.
- Work with IDT, Tech and functional teams to reduce friction in scaling AI solutions and enable consistent rollout across regions and disciplines.
- Promote a culture of experimentation, learning and continuous improvement grounded in delivery outcomes.
5. Shape AI Governance, Risk and Responsible Use
- Engage with Group AI governance, risk and compliance teams to shape pragmatic governance models that enable safe and scalable use of AI.
- Contribute to the evolution of organisational processes, risk appetite and assurance approaches, including alignment with emerging standards (e.g. ISO frameworks).
- Ensure AI solutions are deployed with appropriate controls, transparency and accountability, maintaining Ramboll’s position as a trusted advisor.
- Balance innovation and agility with robust risk management and ethical considerations.
6. Develop and Leverage the External AI Ecosystem
- Identify, assess and engage external partners, platforms and emerging technologies that can enhance Ramboll’s AI capabilities.
- Navigate procurement and pilot processes to test and validate new solutions against real project needs.
- Build a curated ecosystem of partners aligned with Ramboll’s strategic priorities and delivery challenges.
- Bring external innovation into practical application, ensuring rapid evaluation and informed scaling decisions.
7. Contribute to Strategic Alignment Across Tech and Buildings
- Act as the primary interface between Buildings IDT and Ramboll Tech on AI-related priorities, ensuring alignment between central strategy and local application.
- Provide feedback from project delivery into the evolution of AI products, platforms and portfolio priorities.
- Support the shaping of the broader digital and AI strategy through grounded, delivery-based insight.
