Hal Higgins
My role involves designing signalling circuitry to help rail companies make train movements as efficient and safe as possible. Since joining Ramboll in 2021, I’ve gained an extensive set of competencies as a signalling engineer, gaining experience in TPWS, track circuits, level crossings, TCAID/treadle, SSI, interlockings, signal and power supply circuitry design.
I’ve had the opportunity to work on diverse projects, develop technical skills, and learn from experienced professionals. This apprenticeship has provided me with valuable insight into the real-world applications of engineering principles and has been a fantastic foundation for my career.

In the Rail sector, where precision, safety, and efficiency are paramount, apprentices like me, learn directly from experienced professionals. There are over a thousand experts working within the global rail sector at Ramboll. They pass on their knowledge, helping the next generation to understand the critical aspect of maintaining and improving rail infrastructure.
This contributes to the continued growth and innovation of the sector by providing a talent pipeline, dedicated to excellence and sustainability. This is vital in addressing the aging workforce within the rail sector.
One of the things that I have really enjoyed so far is applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects and working alongside experienced professionals. This has enabled me to gain insights and skills that are invaluable in my career development. I also enjoy the collaborative culture at Ramboll and the opportunity to network with other early career professionals.
