Setting Benchmarks in Sustainable Mobility

Ramboll’s North Hanoi masterplan is a smart technology showcase that aims to reduce dependence on private vehicles

Set into a 300-hectare zone, North Hanoi Smart City is a mixed-use development whose sights are set on a new paradigm in transport planning in Vietnam. Together with Sumitomo Corporation and BRG Group, Ramboll has developed for the project a Smart Mobility masterplan that utilises the best technology to rethink how the lives of Smart City residents and businesses can be vastly improved by a congestion-free urban environment.

The present day reality of Hanoi is one rife with challenges; with population growth and economic prosperity, traffic, gridlock and emissions are real concerns for both people and environment. These issues among others form the basis of our extensive work in developing a mobility masterplan for North Hanoi Smart City. From evaluating mobility technology to planning streetscapes as well as vehicles and pedestrian movement at a microscopic level, we worked closely with local representatives to study impacts on the wider network and the staged implementation of the smart city over time.

Thriving Communities

The expected integration of a future metro line presents the opportunity to develop best-in-class transit-oriented developments within the site. This and other high-quality zero-emission public transport define sustainable mobility at the heart of the masterplan, thus creating a city where communities can thrive and benefit from a metropolitan setting that is entirely walkable and democratised of private vehicle commute.
