A vibrant mixed-used district that aims to incubate innovation and foster creativity.

In collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects, Ramboll developed the open space vision for Unicorn Island. Set on the eastern shore of Xin Long Lake in Chengdu, China. The island is envisioned as a vibrant mixed-used district that aims to incubate innovation and foster creativity.

The first major venue was launched at the end of 2020. Ramboll’s work includes an entrance drop-off with a cleansing biotope, a flexible event lawn and a publicly accessible rooftop terrace that offers sweeping views of the lake and the new district and beyond.

Inspired by the fluid lines of the architectural form and the lotus flower, our design features sculpted landforms and voids that mediates elevation change, defines spaces, and frames views while encouraging interaction, knowledge sharing and connectivity.
