Jiangxi River Park, Chengdu, China
A holistic, progressive development model towards climate resilience, land conservation, food security, agritourism, and biophilic eco-living.
Located approximately 50km south-west of Chengdu, China, the Jiangxi River Park sits at the heart of the Tianfu aerotropolis. This development is a linear riparian park acting as a vital regional ecological corridor for flora and fauna, playing a vital role in providing flood control, water storage and cleansing for the new district.
Ramboll was tasked to create a masterplan that was not only economically attractive but also one which maintained the river’s ecosystem, production, and recreational value. The Jiangxi River Park is thus envisioned as a holistic and progressive development model for climate resilience, land conservation, food security, agritourism and biophilic eco-living.
Our early involvement on the project allowed layers of risks and vulnerabilities to be identified through iterative mapping, laying the foundation for the overall design and policy of the park. Working collaboratively with the clients, stakeholders and other consultants, we developed a planning approach that preserves, protects and enhances the site’s unique qualities.
