BRUTUS

Integrating transport modelling with real-time data sources.

BRUTUS by Ramboll is a state-of-the-art activity-based travel demand model. Unlike aggregated and trip-based models, activity-based modelling represents individual people and their sequences of activities and trips across time and space.

BRUTUS is particularly well-suited for traffic flow analyses as it treats journeys as temporally and spatially continuous, allowing results to be viewed in desired locations at specific time intervals. Individual-based modelling means demographic information is included, and the use of synthetic data ensures privacy-by-design.

    Value from data fusion

We continuously obtain more and increasingly accurate data about traffic and people's movements. However, utilising these data sources involves challenges related to pricing, scalability, privacy, and biases. Typically, selecting the best data source for the use case and combining different data sources provides the most value.

Ramboll is a global reseller and gold partner with TomTom for Floating Car Data and has a long-standing collaboration with multiple mobile network data providers. We excel at data fusion with extensive expertise in relevant data sources for mobility, including geospatial data, travel surveys, multi-modal transport networks, GPS data, and sensor data.

Integrating modelling with real-time data sources

By integrating activity-based transport modelling and other modelling methods with real-time data sources, we can address various use cases by examining past trends and current status and forecasting future scenarios. Typically, this means providing network-level understanding on top of data sources with an incomplete view.

We combine best practices from data science with mobility domain expertise to leverage data-driven insights into user needs and mobility patterns.

    About Ramboll’s Digital Mobility Lab

Ramboll’s Digital Mobility Lab combines advanced modelling methods with real-time data to deliver actionable insights for urban and transport planning. Our work supports low-carbon, inclusive mobility strategies by revealing real-world travel behaviour and testing demand-management, active travel and shared-mobility interventions.
