Meet Ivan
Meet Ivan, an environmental impact assessment consultant in our Hong Kong office. After graduation, Ivan started his career with an information sales and expert networking role before transiting to an environmental consultant where he found his true passion.
Q1: What is your role at Ramboll?
Ivan: I am an assistant environmental consultant in Hong Kong office. I work with my colleagues to help clients address complex environmental challenges.
Q2: What attracted you to join Ramboll?
Ivan: Ramboll is an international company that has diverse projects which caught my eye. It makes me want to be involved in and work with like-minded people to promote a sustainable future. With over 18,000 experts from various industries, geographies and backgrounds, Ramboll has many colleagues that I can learn from.
Q3: Can you share an interesting project that you are working on?
Ivan: I was tasked to work on an environmental assessment for a proposed service reservoir in a cavern in Hong Kong. My task was to assess the air quality impact that would arise from the project. The project lasted for around a year, it was one of my first experiences with a large-scale air quality impact assessment project, so the primary challenge for me was to quickly familiarize myself with the procedures in conducting the assessment.
Another interesting project is a district-wide air ventilation impact assessment study in the densely-built Yau Tsim Mong area. It was one of the first projects I participated in when I first joined the company and my involvement in the project was towards its final phase, where I actively worked for approximately 3 to 6 months. One of the primary challenges was managing tight deadlines, which required us to be highly responsive and adaptable to the client's needs.
Through all these experiences, I am able to learn new things from my colleagues every day. I am glad about my progress as I become more confident, proactive and adaptive to the tasks that enable me to navigate client’s sustainability agendas.
Q4: What is the biggest challenge you have faced since joining the team?
Ivan: I would say the biggest challenge is learning and becoming more familiar with new environmental services and solutions. There are many environmental services for which I focus mainly on air-quality assessment. As some projects would require additional services along the way, so I get to learn and work on services such as air noise and land contamination. However, as it is challenging, it also makes my work more rewarding. My colleagues are always very willing to teach me whenever I face any challenges, and I am curious to learn more about the different services to support innovative ideas for our clients.
Q5: How do you describe the culture in Ramboll?
Ivan: I am from Indonesia, but despite cultural differences, everyone is very welcoming in the Hong Kong office! My leaders are always willing to guide and help me understand the issues when a problem arises. The different events and initiatives from the Asia Pacific region continue our commitments to building an inclusive culture and fostering growth where everyone can thrive.
