Meet Andy
Meet Andy, an Environmental Consultant at Ramboll Hong Kong. With a passion for promoting sustainability, Andy joined the green buildings team to provide sustainability advisory on carbon reduction and well-being enhancement, driving the success of several pilot green projects.
Q1: Can you tell us about your role?
Andy: I serve as a project coordinator for green building submission preparation, helping developments achieve target ratings in various green building certifications, such as BEAM Plus in Hong Kong and LEED in the US.
I work on incorporating clients’ sustainability goals, like energy-use and emission reduction targets, to improve their designs. Striving for a greener approach based on our analysis gives me a sense of motivation to be part of building a resilient city.
Q2: What attracted you to join Ramboll?
Andy: The diverse projects attracted me to join, and the people make me stay at Ramboll. I took a leap of faith joining the firm last year, since then I have really developed my skills and experience in services that help clients address environmental impacts. My team has supported me through challenges in learning and developing new skills, aiding my career growth in this industry. The support I’ve received has enabled me to improve and build more confidence in delivering project requirements.
Q3: Can you share an interesting project that you are working on?
Andy: One interesting project I’m working on is the BEAM Plus submission for the Central Kowloon Route Administration Building. This government office, located in the Kai Tak Development Area, serves as the central monitoring and control center for a nearby tunnel. It is likely the first project submitted under the BEAM Plus New Building version 2.0 in our office. The client aims to receive the highest accolade – the Platinum award for this building.
With the client’s target in mind, we worked closely with assessment authorities to explore feasible approaches to meet the assessment goals. We successfully achieved the BEAM Plus New Building Platinum award for this building with the highest possible score. The extensive assessments and innovative problem-solving approaches, along with great collaboration with the project team, enabled this accomplishment. This success is a testament to our ability to explore innovative problem-solving approaches for all our projects.

I also see myself growing and becoming capable of handling diverse projects from hands-on experience with international submissions, such as LEED, WELL, and CGBL, through constant learning and guidance from my team. This continuous learning has built my confidence in providing cutting-edge solutions to clients and addressing emerging challenges effectively.
Q5: What do you enjoy most about working with Ramboll?
Andy: I enjoy working at Ramboll because it allows me to gain wide-ranging experiences, covering topics from environmental impact modeling to sustainability advisory. My time here is very fulfilling as I help clients navigate their sustainability journeys. Ramboll also encourages employees to be innovative in tackling challenges, gaining exposure to pressing sustainability topics, and developing preferred problem-solving techniques.
I also appreciate the support from colleagues, who are approachable and willing to assist whenever anyone encounters difficulties. The interaction extends beyond working hours; during lunches and after work, we frequently have activities that allow us to bond in a more relaxed environment.
