Ramboll wins Industry Excellence Award at CASANZ Innovation and Excellence in Air Quality Awards

Ramboll and its partners RAC WA and Clarity Movement Co. have won the 2024 CASANZ Innovation and Excellence in Air Quality Awards in the Industry Excellence category for our work done on the RAC Air Health Monitor.

Ramboll wins Industry Excellence Award at CASANZ Innovation and Excellence in Air Quality Awards.

The CASANZ Innovation and Excellence in Air Quality Awards, presented by the Clean Air Society of Australia & New Zealand (CASANZ), recognises innovation, excellence, leadership and best practice, within the air quality field. The awards are an opportunity for the air quality industry to celebrate industry achievements, foster innovation and best practice and raise the profile of contributions to our sector.

Martin Parsons, Principal for Australia Consulting in the Environment and Health division, helped receive the award on behalf of the Ramboll team at the CASANZ gala dinner. “We are honoured that our work with RAC WA and Clarity is recognised by our peers. Through this innovative solution, we are able to visualise real-time air quality monitoring in a clear and simple manner so that the public can make informed decisions to promote public health and well-being.”

The RAC Air Health Monitor is the biggest air sensor network in Australia, using Ramboll’s SHAIR air quality modelling technology to show localised, real-time air quality readings across the Perth metropolitan area. Integrating SHAIR technology, the RAC Air Health Monitor blends real-time air pollution sensor data with real-time traffic data, motor vehicle emissions modelling, and other sources to generate a localised model for visualising air pollution.

The solution measures particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), emitted from a range of sources, including vehicles and industry which can be inhaled into the lungs and sometimes enter the bloodstream, impacting cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

“The RAC Air Health Monitor deploys 200 advanced air pollution sensors to map air quality, accessing current and historical air quality data via Ramboll SHAIR. It promotes environmental excellence and supports in moving towards to a clean air future.”

SHAIR outputs summary datasets, maps, and visualisations through a custom interface that can be integrated into web applications or data management systems. Its unique combination of models and measurements, makes it possible to better understand air quality for different stakeholder groups.

Ramboll SHAIR has been integrated in various projects worldwide, including in Australia, South East Asia and the United States.
