Marselis Tunnel: Transforming Aarhus' infrastructure
Ramboll is the owner’s engineer for the Marselis Tunnel project in Aarhus. This infrastructure initiative, part of Denmark's Infrastructure Plan 2035, aims to improve traffic flow and safety by building a tunnel under Marselis Boulevard. Creating new possibilities for a calmer, greener urban environment along one of the busiest corridors in Denmark’s second-largest city.
Scheduled to commence construction in 2028, the Marselis Tunnel project is poised to reduce noise and pollution, contributing to a quieter and greener urban space. The project is a complex task as work must be carried out along one of Aarhus’ main access roads while daily life for residents, businesses, and commuters continues just metres away. The challenges span from building a tunnel within a very constrained urban space to managing impacts in a densely populated area.
While diverting heavy traffic away from Marselis Boulevard, the connection between Aarhus Port and the E45 motorway via Åhavevej will help in managing the heavy-duty traffic to and from Port of Aarhus, ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing congestion in the urban areas.
Ramboll is dedicated to creating sustainable solutions across various sectors, including transport. The Marselis Tunnel project exemplifies our commitment to advancing critical infrastructure projects that deliver long-term benefits to the community.
