Glebe Island Bridge Movement and Place, Australia
The rehabilitation of the Glebe Island Bridge as an active transport link is a key priority for the NSW government and community, providing a desirable connection between the future Bays West Precinct and Pyrmont, as well as a vital link in the completion of a continuous harbour promenade.
Ramboll (in collaboration with SCT Consulting) has produced a Movement and Place Assessment that underpins the bridge’s rehabilitation and activation options. Beyond coordination with multiple precinct strategies and plans surrounding the site, the assessment features among others an overview of the site and area’s European and Indigenous heritage, mapping of environmental constraints and opportunities and analysis of key destinations, with international case studies and a high-level vision for the project’s next design phase.
We analysed and reviewed potential environmental constraints and factors towards recommending making safe the bridge works while working closely with our UK Sustainable Economics team to develop an economic model that quantifies place enhancement benefits. The model’s outputs will be used to inform (and overhaul) the development of Benefit Cost Ratios of TfNSW Business Case submissions to Treasury towards ensuring place benefits inclusion in project delivery economic decision-making.
