The area of responsibility for this position is mainly leading an engineering team that support these projects with innovative engineering solutions and high-level expertise. To succeed in this role, you must have a strong Plant Design / Piping Layout technical background combined with proven competences to manage a team as a deputy team lead, including working across cultures and countries to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Ramboll’s geographies.

You will join our Plant Design Department in our Ramboll Engineering Center - Energy
As our new Deputy Team Lead you will be part of an exceptional technical environment with a large team of passionate colleagues located in Denmark and India. The department is highly experienced and delivers engineering and consultancy services on a global scale within the energy sector. You will be working with and leading a team of very skilled Plant Design / Layout engineers based in Chennai, India, with a wealth of experience, which together with great variety in tasks will give you a unique possibility for a steep learning curve. While the department on a broader scale both supports on- and offshore energy projects, this team mainly delivers consultancy, engineering, and design of offshore sub-stations in all phases of a project.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
- Work as Lead for multidisciplinary projects depending on project complexity and size - Handle one or more Projects independently from REC as part of Global Engineering.
- Handle and guide a team of Designers and Engineers
- Responsible and Accountable for 100% quality of his / her project
- Responsible and Accountable for Schedule and Budget - positive SPI and CPI of his / her project scope - Analyses schedule and progress trends and take necessary corrective / preventive actions
- Participate / Facilitate / Organize / run meetings effectively with client, operator / end client, OEMs, other internal and external stake holders
- Develop and build relationships with internal stakeholders and disciplines and new and existing clients - Effective Coordination and cooperation
- Checking of Design Basis Report & Technical Specifications
- Participate / Guide the team during Layout studies, Routing studies, model reviews, etc.,
- Responsible and Accountable for 3D model starting from set-up through development, model reviews and hand over
- Checking of 3D model, Plot plans, equipment layouts, piping layouts, isometrics, MTO etc.,
- Supports selection and checking of support drawings
- Support Material Handling studies, escape routes, safety layouts, etc.,
- Checking of Piping Material Classes, Specifications and Datasheets
- Checking of Material Requisitions, vendor documents/drawings reviews, Technical Bid evaluations, etc.,
- Technical Issue Resolution – Provide effective, efficient and feasible solution for the problems that arise during the project
- Should be capable of foreseeing the future issues, flag them, provide effective resolution
- Have a strong commercial mind set with rigorous variation control and ensure that the interests of the project, team members, department are protected. Responsible for follow up and ensure variations are raised / claimed with client and added to the budget
- Sharing lessons learnt with all stake holders concerned
- Ensure his / her team is organized and follows Ramboll / client specific guidelines and strategies as applicable
- Efficient utilization of Manpower including relocation to other projects
- Ensures efficient utilization of software in his / her team
- Support the sales and tendering processes for the department - Preparation of Deliverable list & Schedule, Man-hour estimate and Resource requirement – Should be able to align with the market conditions. Improve competitiveness and winnability
- Implementing Lean in Projects – Should always aim for optimizing the manhours spent on various activities, come out with novel ideas, effectively utilize the technologies and human intelligence to continuously improve the delivery model
- Responds to and requests from Project Management related to Scheduling and Reporting, including development of progress metrics, and/or key performance indicators
- Support employees in the team in projects with coaching and guidance
- Support in developing the services of the department further to meet current and future market and client demands - Promote the full-service portfolio towards customers and partners
- Continuously develop employees in the team through Performance and Development Process
- Support and contribute to the strategy and business plan implementation in the department and team
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in engineering, preferably in Mechanical
- Minimum 18 to 20 years of experience within design of offshore Energy related topside facilities. A good understanding of what it takes to design, analyse and document offshore topside OSS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in leading project teams or projects
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in the role of people management
- Should have handled at least 3 to 4 offshore sub-station (OSS) projects independently. Should have extensive knowledge in OSS layout requirements from various aspects and USA / EN / DNV / Client standards. Should have been part of various phases of the project – From feasibility studies / concept / FEED / Detail Engineering. If worked with EPC contractor / Fabrication yard will be an added advantage
- Well familiar with International codes and standards (US, EN, DNV, etc.)
- Expert level in piping routing, layout and support concepts
- Knowledge of 3D Model software like E3D and model review software like Navisworks
- Keen interest in leadership in terms of identifying and developing talent, setting the direction for teams and managing performance
- Good understanding of the commercial aspects of project execution
- Proven track record on delivering results on time, with high quality and within budget
- Good communication skills in English with the ability to work as part of a team interfacing with other disciplines and other stakeholders both in person and remotely
- Ability to actively participate in Plant Design team development and individual professional growth with a mindset and skills to focus on efficient solutions through standardisation and automation of work processes.
