Job Overview

To deliver best practice in building physics and performance modelling throughout the business, we are now looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Building Physicist to join our dynamic Building Performance India team and contribute to our energy modelling work within the Building Advisory & Consultancy Service line across the UK.

We are looking for a talented individual with experience of decarbonising existing building stock, compliance with Part L and other relevant regulations at all RIBA stages through proficient usage of IES and SAP software and delivering autonomous project work to support the team.

Key attributes and responsibilities

  • Production of energy strategies for planning applications (including all GLA documentation), carrying out Part L compliance assessments using IES and/or SAP software packages
  • Operational energy use within buildings in line with CIBSE TM54 and NABERS to limit the energy performance gap
  • Experience with sector specific guidance and compliance metrics, such as the defence and healthcare sectors
  • Conduct detailed overheating risk assessments to mitigate the risks of overheating in buildings
  • Have a keen sense of identity with a focus on a specialism within the wider building physics field, with the ability to engage with and guide the team to develop skills in this area
  • Stay up to speed in all relevant regulation and ensure the team are aware of any updates within your specialism
  • Develop and implement pathways for retrofitting buildings to achieve net-zero carbon performance, including energy efficiency upgrades and low-carbon HVAC systems
  • Engage with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to provide technical advice and ensure building designs meet energy, thermal comfort, and sustainability targets. Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Offer strategic advice on achieving high-performance buildings that meet sustainability goals, including LEED, BREEAM, WELL, Passivhaus and other certification schemes.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the financial implications of delivering projects in a timely manner and ensure clear communication regarding ongoing project status
  • Be able to work autonomously using your own initiative, demonstrate good attention to detail and show pride in the work produced whilst ensuring the same mentality is encouraged throughout the team
  • Have a good knowledge of passive design, LZC technologies and various ‘net zero’ standards, and use this to influence all aspects of building design
  • Have a keen interest in or experience using digital and parametric design tools, coding, working in Rhino/Grasshopper, understanding relevant programming languages and a desire to further digital innovation.

  • A degree in Building Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5-10 years’ experience working as a professional in a similar UK based role
  • Have proven experience in delivering all aspects of building physics, including building energy modelling and compliance analysis using IES and SAP
  • Accreditation with one or more of the following; LCC, LCEA, OCDEA, Passivhaus, NABERS
  • To have achieved or working towards IEng or CEng status
  • Have obtained or have the ability to obtain BPSS Security Clearence
