Key Competencies

Dr Xiangyu (Sian) Sheng is a leading expert in Environmental Science with over 30 years of experience. She has a wide range of expertise in sustainability, climate change, air quality, whole-life carbon assessment and EIA for large infrastructure schemes, including rail, highway, aviation, energy, industrial and urban development. She has been a technical lead for numerous high-profile projects, e.g. HS2, TfL, London 2012 Olympic Legacy, Brent Cross, Crossrail, 2008 Beijing Olympic, EU LIEP, EMCP and EU EGP.  She is a Vice Chair of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) & Vice Chair of the Air Quality Task Force at the Environmental Industry Commission (EIC).

Recent Focus

She has worked on the Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative for DfT, as a Carbon Advisor to the Office of Road and Rail, and as a National Carbon Specialist for the Environment Agency.

Credentials

Xiangyu is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society (FRMets), a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Chartered Physicist (CPhys), a Chartered Scientist (CSci) and a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). She has a BSc in Applied Physics and BEng in Environmental Engineering, MSc in Environmental Engineering and MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development, as well as a PhD in Environmental Science. She has more than 40 journal/ conference publications. She published a book called “Air Dispersion Modelling in Regulatory Applications’ in 2005.
