Meet lead structural engineer Jens Rosenville Jens Rosenville is a structural engineer at Ramboll where he has been involved in a number of different substructure projects, or 'jacket' projects as they are commonly called in offshore language where the term 'jacket' refers to the legs of a platform. Culzean gas field: A challenging and innovative project Jens has acted as lead structural engineer on a high profile project on the British Culzean gas field. The project, which was extended after successful completion of phase one, included the FEED and subsequent detailed design of an offshore platform. With reservoir temperatures reaching 170 degrees C (338 degrees F) and the pressure being three times higher than average fields, this field posed substantial challenges and several ‘firsts’ for the client. Jens’ responsibilities on this project were among other things: Lead analysis engineer for the detail design and for the analysis team In charge of implementation, benchmarking, design work and verification Handling client contact and sparring with the project manager and engineering manager Coordination and analysis work Doesn't everybody want to create something magnificent? 'Designing a massive steel structure which has to be fixed to the sea bed at some 90 metres of water depth, carrying the weight of a 10,000 tonnes topside and withstanding the forces of the sea for a minimum of 25 years is a really challenging and interesting task. There are so many aspects that need to be factored into our analyses, and it is an ever evolving field. We still learn from experience and develop our calculation methods to give even more accurate results', Jens explains. 'I love the idea that I am part of creating something really big, impressive and complicated. Isn't that what any engineer dreams about?’ Jens says with a bright smile. Solutions of tomorrow Apart from the Culzean project, Jens has been involved in detail design of new platforms as well as reinforcement and life time extension projects on existing platforms in the North Sea. He enjoys the variety in his tasks, and he is particularly fond of working on development projects where he and his colleagues create the solutions of tomorrow in a pioneering environment. Young Professional of the year in Denmark 2016 In early 2016, Jens Rosenville was awarded 1st place in the Young Professionals competition by the Danish Association of Consulting Engineers (FRI). The award was given to Jens due to his deep technical insight, his strong innovative mind-set, and his exceptional capacity for collaboration. This combination of skills and personality is the reason for extraordinary project results. You can read more about the award here
