Sharon Maharg specializes in social and reputation risk consulting for project finance and other financial transactions. She has more thaneight years of experience in sustainable finance and consulting, as well as more than 20 years of experience in multiple areas of emerging markets finance. Specific areas of technical expertise include assessing and managing social and reputational risks and impacts of large-scale infrastructure projects, performing due diligence and project monitoring for lenders, conducting social baseline studies, stakeholder engagement and public consultations. Prior to joining Ramboll in 2011, Sharon was a manager at Exponent in New York. Additionally, until 2008, she served as WestLB AG, New York Branch’s Regional Head of Sustainability Management for Latin America. Sharon was a leader among the Equator Principle Financial Institutions (EPFIs), representing one of four founding EPFIs. She was a member of the EPFI Steering Committee, the chair of the EPFI Best Practice Working Group and co-author of the Equator Principles II (2006). Sharon has been involved in more than 40 projects in various sectors, including power, oil and gas, petrochemicals, mining, transportation (e.g., ports, roads and railways), renewable energy, water and waste treatment and agribusiness; and she has worked in more than 15 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and the former Soviet Union.
