Dr. Gavin Thompson is a Principal Consultant in Ramboll’s global Environment & Health business. He has more than 30 years of experience advising manufacturers, marketers and industry associations on evaluating chemical exposures to humans from consumer products, food, food processing and packaging, household items and environmental media.His clients include a broad range of manufactures, including basic and specialty chemicals, pulp and paper, cosmetics, consumer and household products, food ingredient, processing and packaging. He has conducted comprehensive exposure and safety assessments, consultations with regulatory agencies and successful submissions for pre-manufacturing and pre-market approvals, including GRAS notifications, FCNs, NDI and IFNs, FIFRA and TSCA submissions. In support of these projects, Gavin has designed, supervised, interpreted and presented field sampling and laboratory analysis of chemical ingredients and contaminants in environmental media, food products and consumer products to characterize potential human health risks. The target chemicals have included metals, organic compounds (such as PAHs, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), petroleum hydrocarbons and organic solvents) and novel chemical substances (such as pesticide residues, reaction by-products and food contact substances). He earned a PhD in environmental science and engineering from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, an MS in environmental science from Indiana University and a BA in chemistry from Saint John’s University.
