Lara Alvarez is an environmental economist with over 16 years of experience in environmental consultancy. Her work is focused on multi-disciplinary projects advising clients on the environmental, social and economic sustainability of investments and projects through the valuation of wider benefits, impacts and trade-offs, and has particular expertise in the application of natural capital and ecosystem services frameworks. Her recent work experience includes environmental damage valuations, appraisal of remediation options, evaluation of investment costs in risk management at major industrial facilities, off-shore decommissioning options appraisal, product safety and stewardship and project and policy level impact assessments across a wide variety of sectors. She is currently a member of the BSI Assessing and Valuing Natural Capital committee (SES/1/1/2), further to which she has conducted technical reviews of draft technical standards, namely ISO 14007 (Determining environmental costs and benefits) and ISO 14008 (Monetary valuation of environmental impacts and related environmental aspects), and she is currently providing advice on Natural Capital Accounting frameworks. Lara holds an MSc in Environmental Technology – Environmental Economics and Politics and a BSc in Environmental Management.
