Tripla, Helsinki: A neighbourhood under one roof

The Mall of Tripla in Helsinki is one of the most challenging recently completed large scale construction projects in the capital area of Finland. It establishes a commercial concentration in the area, combining the services of a shopping centre, wellbeing and entertainment under one shared roof.
Mall of Tripla in Helsinki is one of the most challenging recently completed large scale construction projects in the capital area of Finland. It is situated in Pasila, a developing suburb only 5 minutes north from Helsinki city center and combines all aspects of urban living.
The conceptual design of Mall of Tripla was done by the Dutch Office for Metropolitan Architecture (O.M.A.). Arkkitehdit Soini & Horto Oy is the architect and head designer in Finland.
In addition to the workspace and residential buildings along the shopping centre, the area comprises a new hotel and a modern, spacious car park which, among others, provides charging stations for nearly 300 electric cars. In addition to public transport, the Pasila area can be easily navigated on foot or bicycle, as the bicycle park of Tripla offers parking space for 3,400 bicycles. The new Pasila Railway station and the public transportation centre provide easy connections for mobility and for changing between various forms of transport.
Ramboll’s expertise in this project is represented by geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and landscape engineering, environmental surveys, HVAC, electrical and lighting engineering, as well as building automation supervision. The largest efforts have been made in the fields of the exceptionally demanding geotechnical and structural engineering, as well as design engineering of building automation to this extensive project. A key component in the project was successful digital design, which Ramboll has also received several awards for.
Tripla has been awarded the highest-level LEED Platinum certification. Green roof area amounts to a total of 40% of all of the roof area and compared to similar new buildings in general, the shopping centre consumes approximately 40% less energy and clean water.
The building of Tripla was completed in phases in the years 2019 to 2020. The overall costs of this massive endeavour are estimated to be about 1.5 billion euros. In the first stage, the shopping centre Mall of Tripla and the new Pasila station were completed. The new era shopping centre was opened in October 2019. At the time of opening, Mall of Tripla was the largest shopping centre in the Nordic countries.
