As our new BESS specialist, you will be part of Ramboll’s DK Energy Systems team in Chennai. You will support our Ramboll offices to execute energy storage business and will be responsible for the delivery of our work and support the growth of the energy transition. Your Responsibilities as BESS Specialist

  • Review load profiles and Engineer Battery Energy Storage Systems to meet project goals.
  • Clear understanding on the different parameters for design, selection, and sizing of the batteries as well leveraging the parameters to arrive at the most optimum sizes of the batteries.
  • Should have deep understanding on Battery Energy Storage System design, chemistry selection, performance modelling, lifetime estimation simulations of batteries, degradation and augmentation schedules, visualization of business model (duty cycle). Experience in design of battery system sizing using simulation tools like MATLAB, Homer.
  • Knowledge on different applications of battery systems like power smoothening, ancillary services, peak shifting etc., and determination of battery profile, dispatch optimization for different applications.
  • Develop battery container layouts and coordinate with electrical, civil and PV engineering team for complete packages for installation.
  • Develop single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details for the battery system in accordance with local codes and requirements.
  • Model energy storage system performance, coordinate, obtain and integrate BMS, EMS and SCADA designs for the battery system from third party monitoring companies.  
  • Understand AC Coupled and DC coupled Battery Energy Storage systems
  • Develop technical specifications and scopes of work for owners, engineering firms and contractors.
  • Knowledge on design modelling of Hybrid Renewable Energy sources (especially Solar, BESS Wind).
  • Experience in design of power generation mix for microgrid/hybrid power systems using hybrid energy system simulation tools (Homer Pro, Homer Grid, MATLAB).
  • Designs for different types of battery enclosure type solutions like cabinet type, container type, building type storage solution. Identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with Batteries / PCS / HVAC / FFS for different enclosure systems.
  • Investigates design factors such as function, durability, performance, efficiency, and contractual requirements.
  • Drive the technical due diligence from initial screen until turnover to the project management group for the implementation phase
  • Perform value engineering, engineering studies, prepare detailed estimates, cost analysis and as-built designs.
  • Shall have profound knowledge in fundamental aspects and main characteristics of current battery technologies and relate them to battery parameters (like Round Trip efficiency, Cycle Life, etc.)
  • Should have deep understanding of Bi-directional inverter operation, control, and integration with battery systems. Familiarity with DC/DC converter operation, some experience in designing or modelling power conversion devices is a plus.
  • Should have hands-on experience working on software like MATLAB, HOMER, Dig SILENT, ETAP, PSCAD etc.,
  • Knowledge on manufacturing quality process of various battery technologies is a plus. Deep understanding on battery value chain and identify the main challenges at each step
  • Shall have comprehensive knowledge on latest standards on design, testing and validations like IEC 62933, UL9540A, NFPA 855, UL 1973, IEC 62619 etc.,
  • Knowledge of utility grid interconnection standards, such as UL/IEEE standards, IS, European grid codes.
    • A degree in electrical engineering, preferably with a specialization in power systems, renewable energy and/or sustainable energy technology.
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in the areas of Renewable Energy Systems like Solar PV, Battery Storage, Wind Energy Systems.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in working on (conceptual) designs, simulation and/or deployment of BESS (Battery Energy Storage System)
    • Experience with power system simulation tools (PSS®E, DigSilent PowerFactory or similar) and/or microgrid and hybrid energy system simulation tools (Homer Pro, Homer Grid) would be preferred.
    • Project management skills and experience in an international, multicultural environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability build client relationships and generate new business opportunities
