Functional Safety Assessor / Technical Inspector (m/f/d) – Railway Signalling & CCS
Are you an expert in railway functional safety? We are looking for a specialized engineer to join our independent, accredited Ramboll Inspection and Certification Body (Ramboll ICB). Working at the forefront of the transport industry, you will evaluate safety-critical control, command, and signalling (CCS) systems (such as ETCS, CBTC, and interlocking systems) for clients worldwide.

Your new role
- Safety Assessment: Independently inspect and assess hardware and/or software development processes for railway control, command, and signalling systems
- Standards Compliance: Evaluate developments against valid railway standards (CENELEC) to ensure the highest level of functional and technical safety
- Inspection Planning & Reporting: Create and document inspection plans throughout the development lifecycle, coordinate with various technical interfaces, and prepare official result documentation (e.g., Inspection Reports, Lists of Open Points)
- Project Leadership: Take on technical and commercial project management, assist in acquiring follow-up orders, and mentor new team members
About you (Must-Haves)
To be successful in this highly specialized role, you must bring the following qualifications:
- Education: Completed technical studies (e.g., electrical engineering, traffic engineering, information technology, communication technology, or automotive engineering)
- Domain Experience: Proven professional experience in functional/technical safety specifically for rail transport products and applications (Control-Command and Signalling)
- Technical Knowledge: Sound, practical knowledge of current CENELEC standards (specifically EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129)
- Systems Understanding: Deep understanding of the interaction with other disciplines such as RAMS and validation
- Language Skills: Business-fluent knowledge of German and English
Additional Skills (Nice-to-Haves)
- Familiarity with ETCS or CBTC systems
- Careful, accurate working style with strong communication skills to handle stakeholder coordination
- Willingness to travel at short notice for client inspections

Our accredited independent Inspection Body, Ramboll ICB, performs inspections in the following areas:
- Assessment of on-board and track-side control-command and signalling and their maintenance as part of the evaluation for EC verification according to Directive (EU) 2016/797
- Assessment of safety cases and safety management processes for on-board and track-side control-command and signalling as part of the independent assessment of the application of safety management systems
- and determination of conformity with specific requirements or, based on professional judgement, with general requirements
The Inspection Body is recognised as a CSM Assessment Body (AsBo) (DE/36/0023/0041) by the German Federal Railway Authority (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt) in accordance with European law and approved as a Designated Body (BBS) in Switzerland (BAV-432.32-00001/00063) for the control-command and signalling on-board subsystem.
