Geophysical and geotechnical

Geophysics is the study of the physical condition of the earth, sea and atmosphere.

At Ramboll Oil & Gas we apply our knowledge within geophysics and geotechnics to projects within offshore installation and design of platforms and wind turbines, and for onshore projects such as designing gas storage facilities.

2D and 3D used for geophysical models

By using geophysical surface methods we can estimate the physical condition of the earth or seabed in 2D or 3D models and link drillings and cone penetration test (CPT) data for example, to the geophysical model.

We carry out all types of geophysical studies, including:

  • Seismic, including reflection and refraction
  • Marine studies
  • Logging of drilling holes and vertical seismic profiling (VSP)
  • Transient electromagnetic sounding (TEM) studies
  • CVES (Continuous Vertical Electrical Sounding ) or Multi Electrode Profiling (MEP) studies

Qualitative measurements

Our geophysical studies are based on the analysis and interpretation of field measurements. Qualitative field measurements are decisive for the end result of the studies.

Ramboll carries out projects ranging from marine feasibility studies for natural gas pipelines to offshore wind farms. We also apply our broad knowledge of geophysical methods to a wide range of highly specialised jobs.

We often work closely with our clients, and draw on the expertise of our colleagues from other areas of Ramboll. This inspires us and enables us to further develop our geophysical skills set.
