Piping and layout

Cost-efficiency and safety are key components when designing piping and layout on a platform, an FPSO or an onshore plant.

Space management is vital in the conceptual and detailed design phase – Ramboll has the tools and experience to solve these issues in the best possible manner.

A well designed piping system is designed with an eye for safety, construction, operation, maintenance and cost-effective solutions.

Ramboll Oil & Gas has 3 decades of experience within piping and layout design, including:

  • Layout engineering
  • Detailed design e.g. 3D modelling of piping and supports
  • Piping flexibility analysis

3D CAD is of course used for plant layout design and we use state-of-the-art software programmes such as PDS and PDMS in our design.

Innovative design solutions

We have been involved in projects such as the innovative cylinder-shaped FPSO, Piranema, where Ramboll was responsible for engineering the steel structures and piping on deck and in addition performed safety analyses.

The layout for the Nini/Cecilie platforms where the X-mas tree is placed rather close, but still accessible for operation and maintenance, is a prime example of how the layout of the platform is crucial for the design of the remaining structures.

On Hess Denmark’s platform South Arne we have performed several piping modification projects due to changes of piping specifications and life-time extension projects.
