Land use planning & development

A robust and transparent land administration system is an essential part of the development of a nation. The requirements of such a system increase when the economy grows and investments increase.

Land administration

A land administration framework includes land legislation, land registration, land valuation/taxation, land-use planning, land allocation and land information. It is particularly important to give the general public and private groups access to service provisions and information.

Ramboll is actively involved in all aspects of land administration, including:

  • Land and natural resource inventories
  • Land registration/land allocation
  • Land-use planning
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Remote Sensing (RS)
  • Land-use change studies

Land tenure is important for security and provides farmers with an incentive to develop their land in an economically and environmentally sound way. Land security is a very important aspect of poverty alleviation. Safe tenure is also important for attracting investments in, for example, industry, agriculture and forestry, and tourism.

Land-use mapping

Remote Sensing (RS), GIS and land-use mapping techniques provide up to date information for decision makers and technical staff. Ramboll has the capacity to use and develop GIS and RS applications in most environments.

Ramboll has in-depth experience in land tenure issues, which are an integral part of rural development. Using an integrated approach, we take environmental aspects such as climate change into account in land administration. Socio-economic aspects usually set the context for land-use planning.

Land is a valuable asset and Land Information Systems (LIS) allow people to access information about land for potential investment or other developments. LIS also provides authorities with a tool to improve the planning and administration of land, including taxation.
