EIA experience
Ramboll has extensive experience in carrying out EIAs. Our experience is global and encompasses a wide range of sectors: roads, airports, ports, bridges, industries, oil and gas facilities, waste, wind farms and other renewable energies. We also perform EIAs in connection with urban and regional planning. We facilitate EIAs for international, regional and local customers, including financial institutions, private companies, and public authorities.
EIA is used to assess environmental effects, compare alternatives, identify appropriate mitigation measures and facilitate informed decision making. An EIA must comply with the prevailing legislation and/or guidelines and will typically include the following:
- Detailed project description, noting the sources and impacts of environmental disturbances
- Complete list of alternatives, including those rejected and detailed examination of those under serious consideration
- Description of the project environment, including the fauna, flora, air, soil, water, socio-economics and cultural heritage
- Detailed examination of the nature and scope of potential impacts, temporary and permanent, local and regional
- Proposal of mitigation measures based on potential impacts
- Description of any assumptions and limitations of the EIA or unknown factors
- Non-technical summary of the project and the findings of the EIA written for non-experts and decision makers.
Facilitation of the permitting process
In addition to carrying out the technical aspects of EIA, Ramboll also facilitates the contact between our customer and the permitting authority throughout the EIA procedure and actively ensure that a constructive dialogue is maintained. Our many years of experience mean that we are familiar with the level of detail required by authorities to grant project approval and as a result avoid unnecessary surveys and studies.
Public consultation
Ramboll has many years experience of public consultation meetings to involve local people and NGOs. We believe that public participation can strengthen projects and reduce potential impacts.
