Poor mobile reception is becoming an increasingly big issue for private and governmental organisations alike. In order to run a business you need coverage wherever you are, and you need that coverage to function properly.

As modern buildings are being designed with minimal energy consumption in mind, the improved insulation is becoming more and more difficult for wireless signals to penetrate. There are several solutions that can remedy this issue. Ramboll offers mobile coverage consultancy that will help you find the right solution for your business.

Which operator is delivering in your area? If no one is, what do you do? Ramboll can help you with this and many more questions.  We are offering the following:

  • Measurements of indoor and outdoor mobile coverage
  • Counselling/Project Management  concerning the best mobile network solution in your area
  • Counselling/Project Management in connection with installation and/or modification of DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems)

If your company already has a DAS that is not functioning optimally, we can help identify the issues. A DAS is not something you can buy, install and then forget all about. New technologies and frequencies are introduced and buildings are being modified constantly. An area that was originally planned as a warehouse can suddenly be put into service as office space, and the demands for that space changes drastically. A HVAC unit is modified and a pipe or a metal sign is moved close to an antenna, which creates a gap in the coverage. Because of eventualities like these, Ramboll recommends that the coverage from a DAS is monitored regularly, before complaints start rolling in.

Mobile paging/alarm system

Hospitals often utilise a paging/alarm system where tasks/alarms are entered on a computer and subsequently sent to the employees’ smartphones. If the system is not working as it should, it can be difficult to pinpoint the source of the error – the server, your own IT-network, the operators IT-network or something else altogether. Ramboll can help identify and remedy these problems and is offering:

  • Project management
  • Measurements of mobile coverage and functionality
  • Handling and coordination of multiple providers
  • Impartial gathering and sorting of data
  • Counselling on possible solutions

Wireless networks are becoming more and more common and are tasked to do more than ever. This includes Voice over WiFi (IP telephony), positioning and, broadband data transfer. This makes functionality and coverage all the more important and highlights the need to avoid gaps in coverage.

Measuring mobile coverage in newly-constructed hospital wing

In the autumn of 2015 Ramboll performed a comprehensive analysis of the mobile coverage in a newly-constructed hospital wing. All operators and mobile technologies supported were measured in the frequencies supported by the DAS. The goal is to achieve 100 % coverage all over the facility. The analysis ensured that the handover, when entering and leaving the building, functioned correctly.
