Ramboll offers a multidisciplinary approach to power generation and distribution. Our unique strength stems from a strong team of more than 220 experts with in-depth experience within design and implementation through to operations and maintenance support, failure investigation and power plant rehabilitation and upgrades.

We provide consultancy covering all forms of power generation plants, with particular expertise in:

High efficiency power plants
Ramboll has extensive experience of designing and implementing fuel efficient combined cycle and major thermal power plants, including expertise in supercritical and ultra-supercritical boiler plants. We offer our clients all services necessary for fuel and plant optimisation including comprehensive thermodynamic modelling of boiler and turbine processes, coupled with in-depth knowledge of plant and system design.

Co-generation & fuel efficiency

For both new and retrofit Co-generation (Combined Heat and Power) projects we offer our clients all services that are necessary for fuel and plant optimisation including turbine processes, heat accumulators and district heating systems - from analysis, planning and design to procurement, implementation, quality control and operation.

A European trend in power generation is to convert coal-fired power plants to various degrees of co-firing or complete conversion and to construct new units fuelled with biomass such as straw, wood chips and pellets.

Our expertise encompasses the full range of knowledge needed to successfully convert/build plants from fuel receipt and logistics to supply of power and heat and draws upon extensive project development and implementation experience, including specialist experience in areas such as boiler performance and emissions modelling, coal mill modifications, fire safety and explosion risk mitigation.

Risk & safety

Ramboll’s risk and safety engineering starts already at the design, but can also be used on an existing power plant to secure safe operation and check-up on installed safety mechanisms.

Ramboll has knowledge and understanding of related standards and norms and have used the tools on both new and existing plants.

Retrofit and life extension

Retrofitting adds new technologies to existing systems and deals with power plant efficiency, increasing output, life extension, fuel flexibility and emission reduction. In such projects Ramboll typically supports the client from the initial feasibility study until commissioning and acceptance testing.

O&M support

Ramboll is qualified in all parts of power plant O&M (operation & maintenance) necessary to achieve high availability, performance, profitability and safety. We use our experience with tried and tested management and planning methods and with specific technical issues to deliver solutions that streamline our clients' operating and maintenance economy.
