Urban water

The global demand for water services is rising rapidly. The demand is driven by several factors including worldwide population growth, urbanisation, industry, and irrigation. In North Western Europe this demand is furthered by climate changes in the form of heavy rain storms and more stringent EU legislation aimed at managing flood risks and improving water quality.

One of our global sectors is urban water management. With our multidisciplinary expertise and experience from both developing and industrialised markets, we are uniquely qualified to undertake the water-related challenges faced by our customers and society at large. Regardless of the size and complexity of the projects we have the capacity to support a comprehensive service.

Umeå waste water treatment plant, Sweden

Ramboll is consultant and design engineer on the extension of the Umeå waste water treatment plant from 115,000 to 200,000 connected persons. The project includes process design of the treatment plant, EIA, and permit applications with an option for detailed design of the extended plant. The treatment plant is based on the traditional activated sludge process with tertiary treatment (nitrogen removal).

Intelligent Waste Water Handling in Copenhagen, Denmark

Climate change greatly affects our society and influences the environment and economy.  It is necessary to deal with more waste-water than ever before - a task that can lead to enlarge waste-water pools and rebuilding or removing existing sewer systems. These drastic measures could, however, be avoided.  Ramboll has developed a system for intelligent waste water handling - it enables the cleaning of a greater amount of waste-water as well as being extremely cost-effective.
