District heating systems are key to any low-carbon city, distributing low-carbon heat in a flexible way through local networks.

 
 
 

District heating system in the Copenhagen Region

The system supplies almost CO2 neutral heat to more than 50 million m2 area corresponding to an annual heat demand of 30.000 TJ.

Ramboll has provided various services to the transmission companies and most of the distribution companies. Our assistance to the first companies began more than 45 years ago and today most of the companies are among our clients.

Extension of District Heating in Copenhagen

The inter-municipal waste management and district heating company Vestforbrænding owns and operates the largest waste-to-energy plant in Northern Europe. The company also owns a heat transmission and distribution network, which supplies mainly large consumers in the municipalities of Herlev, Ballerup, and Gladsaxe in the Copenhagen Region.
