Umeå waste water treatment plant

Ramboll has signed a major contract with the city of Umeå in northern Sweden for extension of their waste water treatment plant from 115,000 to 200,000 connected persons. The project includes process design of the treatment plant, EIA and permit applications, with an option for detailed design of the extended plant.

M1 motorway widening (J25-28) environmental design

The work of our environmental consultants was an integral part of the design process in the widening of the M1 motorway between junctions 25 and 28 in Nottinghamshire. We coordinated with all the various disciplines to ensure that the necessary levels of environmental assessment, protection and mitigation were incorporated into the project. Specifically, we focused on the ecology, contaminated land, water quality, and waste and resource management aspects.The M1 widening scheme covered a 25km section of motorway, bringing it up to dual four-lane standard. Intelligent Waste Water Handling in Copenhagen

Ramboll develops a model for intelligent waste water handling, which enables cleansing of a larger amount of waste water as well as cost savings for the waste water sector.

Improving water and sanitation in Mali

Ramboll has delivered technical assistance to regional authorities for provision of water and sanitation service and facilitate the decentralisation process in three regions: Sikasso, Mopti and Koulikoro.

Al Reem Island development regional infrastructure

The Ramboll Abu Dhabi office has provided the conceptual design for the utilities (package 1) along the 9km of new regional roads that will serve the new mixed use developments on Al Reem — a natural island situated several hundred metres off Abu Dhabi Island. Al Reem is approximately 8.5 sq km in area.

The Salt House

The Salt House — a mixed use redevelopment in London's Soho — was welcomed by the local planning department but subject to tight deadlines for demolition and construction. The new building provides five retail units at basement and ground levels, with three floors and a penthouse, providing 15 apartments. A number of challenges had to be addressed. An unstable neighbouring property was also undergoing redevelopment and close liaison concerning the party wall was essential. Another neighbouring building houses a recording studio with sensitive equipment, and a street market had to relocate to accommodate Salt House construction. New treatment plant in Skellefteå, Sweden

Alongside the Formula One Circuit and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Links Golf Course is a high quality, unique attraction to put Abu Dhabi on the map. Ramboll provided the infrastructure to make it happen.

Monitoring water quality in connection with motorway and tunneling construction in Norway

In the period 2013-2018, Ramboll is assisting the Norwegian Public Roads Administration in monitoring water quality in streams, rivers, ponds and wells within the construction area of the new E134 13.2 km route between Damåsen-Saggrenda. This route involves 4.5 km tunnelling in four tunnels and lies within the water areas of Eikern and Nummedal rivers and touches five watersheds. 

Hevossaari water intake plant

The Hevossaari water intake plant is being built in Heinola, Southern Finland. The plant will be inaugurated in late winter 2011, and will serve as the primary household water supply in Heinola. Ramboll has been in charge of all the planning stages and subareas.

Ankhor development, Tashkent

Situated opposite the city's presidential complex, the Ankhor site in central Tashkent represents prime redevelopment land in Uzbekistan. Originally accommodating low level housing, outbuildings and wasteland, the 9.27ha site is located in a seismic zone. It is bounded by the Chirchick river, roads and buildings. Ramboll’s structural, infrastructural and environmental expertise was sought, and we liaised with the architect from an early stage to explore masterplan options for a mixed use development. The aim of the feasibility study was to maximise the density of any proposed design and address a number of issues in support of the planning application. Sustainable urban draining system

The growth in the frequency and severity of extreme rainfall has significantly increased the risk of flooding from rivers and urban drainage systems of insufficient capacity. It is a huge investment to dig into the earth and expand the sewer systems in urban areas, so other measures may prove to be better and cheaper alternatives.

Major pollution abatement in Algeria

The Algerian Ministry of Environment has launched a major programme for pollution abatement of the River Chlef. The 800 km long Chlef is the country’s most important river. Around four million people live along the river banks, which also accommodate a large number of heavily polluting industries.

Ramboll purifies water for over 1 million inhabitants of Stockholm

Stockholm is growing, therefore the sanitation sewers will over the coming years undergo the biggest transformation of our time. As part of the project, Ramboll has been assigned the task to manage the process- and machine projection as well as project coordination of the site extension of the Henriksdal wastewater treatment plant. The contract is worth 24 million SEK and will run through 2015 and 2016.

Nordhavnsvej – the largest road construction project in Copenhagen in 50 years

The project for “Nordhavnsvej” is the first stage of a new road to Copenhagen’s Nordhavn (North Harbour). Nordhavn is an old industrial and port area, planned to be developed into a new urban area in the north-eastern part of Copenhagen. When fully developed, the urban area is planned for 40,000 residents and 40,000 workplaces.
