Myllypuro campus for Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Ramboll is acting as a construction consultant for a new campus for Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Myllypuro, Helsinki.

Construction project in Ostrobothnia using by-products

As a specialist in UUMA technology (the use of by-products in the building of infrastructure) we are acting as an expert consultant in Ostrobothnia, Western Finland. In this project we are focusing on the commercialisation, logistics and exploitation of ash produced by local industrial plants.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge

Spanning the River Tyne to link the Newcastle and Gateshead quaysides, Gateshead Millennium Bridge was the world's first tilting bridge. Our bridge engineers developed the competition-winning concept design in collaboration with Wilkinson Eyre Architects.

Garden Reach Shipyard modernisation

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) is a Government of India undertaking, building vessels of many types — mostly for the government itself. Its shipyards are located on the River Hooghly in Kolkata. Together with our associated sub-consultants Appledore International, TK Roy & Associates and Intercon Maritime Consultants, we provided design and masterplanning services for the modernisation of the Garden Reach Shipyard.The main yard’s existing facilities included a dry dock, building berth, slipway, workshops and hull fabrication shops. Single living accommodation, Devil's Tower Camp

Devil’s Tower Camp is a British military base on Gibraltar’s east coast. It is home to various armed forces including the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. The site’s refurbishment included improvements to site’s transit, permanent and welfare facilities for 450 serving personnel.

RAF Akrotiri - Refurbishment of airfield operating surface and airfield ground lighting

RAF Akrotiri is a busy British military airfield situated on the Akrotiri Peninsular on the South coast of Cyprus. The Base provides joint support to British Forces Cyprus and Operations in the region in order to protect the UK's strategic interests. It is used as a forward mounting base for overseas operations in the Middle East and for fast jet training. The previous runway had reached the end of its usable life, and this project set out to refurbish the aircraft operating surfaces and to widen the taxiways.

East Water Catchment decommissioning, Gibraltar

On the east side of Gibraltar, above the small village of Catalan Bay, is an area of some 130,000 sq m which has been in use since the early 1900s as a rainwater catchment for the territory's water supply. Our geotechnical engineers and environmental consultants worked on the decommissioning of the catchment and the reinstatement of the sloping site. We also undertook project management. The site rises 250m at a uniform angle of 34 degrees across its width. It is part of a dune structure, believed to have been formed in the period when the Mediterranean was a dry basin. For use as a catchment, it had been covered with corrugated steel sheeting, and stabilisation and environmental improvements were required to make it safe and to meet EU Protected Habitat requirements. < ...

A487 Bangor to Fishguard Trunk Road Improvement at Glandyfi

Glandyfi Junction on the A487 coastal trunk road runs through one of Wales’ most scenic areas, but its narrow bends made it a notorious bottleneck and accident blackspot. This improvement scheme involved widening and straightening a 1.3km stretch of the road beside the Afon Dyfi estuary, close to the Snowdonia National Park.

NBSL - new bridge for the St. Lawrence corridor project

The New Champlain Bridge corridor is one of the largest infrastructure projects in North America and is of crucial importance for the regional economy and for Canada as a whole. It will provide the main gateway to Montreal with a signature bridge on the Saint Lawrence River. The New Champlain Bridge (NBSL) will become a new iconic symbol for the metropolis and will change the urban look of Montreal.

Refurbishment of operational runways

Renewal of the Aalborg centralised traffic control system

Rail Denmark has decided to modernise the centralised traffic control system in Aalborg. The current system is ready for replacement. The Aalborg-Frederikshavn section includes a total of 8 substations, with various interlocking systems. The new system will be based on modern, screen based technology. It will provide a higher level of automatic train management functions than ever before. It will therefore enable more efficient operations, and will reduce operational costs.

Rail modernisation in Slovakia

The client was the Slovakian National Railways (ZSR). Ramboll provided contract and construction management as well as planning services to ZSR. We also provided progress reports to the EU. This was a joint venture with iC Consulenten (Austria) as lead, and Dopravoprojekt (Slovakia) as sub-consultant.

Hvidovre water project

Damhusledningen sewer project at Hvidovre reduces overflows at Damhusåen and is constructed by microtunnelling through complex geology with high groundwater.

Tynemouth Railway Station

Grade II* listed Tynemouth Railway Station has undergone extensive refurbishment to preserve its elegant canopy roof and enable its redevelopment as a community venue.

RNLI Baltimore upgrade

Baltimore Lifeboat Station, on the south west tip of Ireland, has been extended and remodelled to accommodate the needs of crews for the inshore and all-weather lifeboats. Facilities have been improved further by creating an adjacent pontoon berth. Our team provided geotechnical, marine, structural and building services engineering and project management.The station building (c.1913) is an early example of reinforced concrete construction and has been refurbished and enlarged by the addition of a new steel frame extension, roofed with slate to match the existing. The station’s slipway has been modified so that RNLI Baltimore’s Atlantic 75B class inshore lifeboat Bessie can be launched directly from the boathouse. E18 Grimstad-Kristiansand

Ramboll is engaged as the main consultant on the stretch of the new E18 motorway between Grimstad and Kristiansand. The new motorway will significantly improve the Norwegian infrastructure and will improve living conditions for local communities living along the existing road.

The Øresund Link

The Øresund Link connects the Danish capital Copenhagen with the city of Malmö in southern Sweden by a four lane motorway and a two track electrified railway for high speed (200 km/h) passenger services as well as freight trains.

The Mersey Gateway - six lane toll bridge

Ramboll has played a significant role in the Mersey Gateway project, the central feature of the significant highway improvements between the M56 and Speke Road. It is a new six-lane cable-stayed tolled bridge across the Mersey Estuary between Runcorn and Widnes.

Cobham Motorway Service Area

Ramboll was lead engineer for Cobham Motorway Service Area, a 20ha development on an environmentally sensitive greenfield site.

Tunnel under Marselis Boulevard

The project consists of a 1.8 kilometre cut and cover tunnel, consisting of mechanical and electrical  installations, several road and railway bridges (including railway bridges at Langenæs, Åhavevej and Viby Ringgade), and all temporary structures.

Fehmarn: The world's longest road/rail tunnel

In the future Scandinavia and the rest of Europe will be connected by the world's longest road and rail tunnel.

Nordhavnsvej – the largest road construction project in Copenhagen in 50 years

The project for “Nordhavnsvej” is the first stage of a new road to Copenhagen’s Nordhavn (North Harbour). Nordhavn is an old industrial and port area, planned to be developed into a new urban area in the north-eastern part of Copenhagen. When fully developed, the urban area is planned for 40,000 residents and 40,000 workplaces.
