The original industrial building is transformed to a representative and functional university building with library, learning centre, storage magazines and offices. The interior is totally renovated with new functions, surfaces, interior fittings and upgraded technical installations.
From being a ”strange bird” in the neighbourhood with rough facades in exposed concrete and metal cladding, the building now appears with a modernised, but softened expression which connects the building to the surroundings and neighbouring buildings. The building is nevertheless given an independent design and expression with a strong identity and dignity as an important community building.
The official character of the building is further strengthened as the outdoor area in front of the building is transformed from being a parking space to an upgraded and attractive urban space which also indicates the new main entrance.
Ramboll has been architects, design managers and structural engineers for the renovation. The building has a gross area of 5200 sqm. The rebuilding and renovation is carried out within a budget of MNOK 30.
