The City of Helsinki is building a new campus for Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Myllypuro. Ramboll is a construction consultant in the €165 million megaproject. The new campus will open in two phases in 2018–2019.
The construction is divided into three main stages: blasting works, earth construction works and the building construction stage. Blasting works started in February 2016.
The project is highly demanding, since the campus complex will be built in the immediate vicinity of Ring Road I and the Myllypuro underground station and partly above the underground track. The schedule is also tight for a project of this magnitude, which is why skilful and efficient planning and construction are especially important.
The quality of planning and construction is key to the success of the project from the outset. As a construction consultant, Ramboll is responsible for managing the site environment with respect to factors such as humidity and hygiene.
The Myllypuro campus will house approximately 500 staff and 6,000 students. Metropolia's administration will also relocate to the new campus.
