Ramboll's office in Mumbai is preparing the structural design of the 54 storey and 150m tall Exotica building in Mumbai.

Our first high rise building project in India

Mumbai, India, is a city surrounded by sea on 3 sides. This means that due to coastal zonal regulations and environmental issues, the city cannot expand horizontally. The only way to accommodate the growing population in the city is to grow vertically. This has ignited an interest in the construction of high rise structures. Now the first design consultancy contract for a high rise building has been awarded to our office in Mumbai.

A market with great potential

"By winning this first high rise building project in India, it has been proven to us that it is possible to realise our vision for the Indian market", says CEO Flemming Bligaard Pedersen about the new project. "We were confident that there was a local market for our full service portfolio, as the country is rapidly evolving. India is certainly a market with great potential for Ramboll, and we will now actively seek to increase our presence in this market."

Our office in Mumbai has been awarded the consultancy services for the structural design of the 54 storey and 150m tall Exotica building in Mumbai. Our customer is RNA Corp., one of India's leading property development companies with many prestigious projects being planned in Mumbai.

A 100,000m2 luxury development

RNA Corp. sees the Exotica building project as a way to establish themselves as a quality brand in the real estate industry. The project consists of 16 general floors for parking, lobby etc. and 8 towers with 38 floors consisting of high end luxury apartments. The total size of the development is about 100,000m2. It is located in the North of Mumbai, in an area that is not yet fully established but which is expected to be developed as a high end neighbourhood in the next 5 years.

"This order is an important milestone for our strategy of becoming the preferred engineering consultancy company in relation to high rise structures in India ", says Director of Buildings in Mumbai, Mukesh Pritamdasani. "Especially if we are able to provide innovative and efficient designs which can reduce construction costs and at the same time speed up construction, there will be a huge potential for Ramboll in this growing market."

The project will start in February and the structural framework is expected to be completed in 30 months.
