Women carrying water in Ethiopia
The project is called COWASH and it is designed to help the Government of Ethiopia achieve its five-year Growth and Transformation Plan targets for rural water supply and sanitation in 76 districts in the country.
The project team is headed by Mr. Arto Suominen, Chief Technical Advisor in Ramboll Water in Finland. He has spent 15 of his 22 years with Ramboll in Ethiopia which has given him solid insight in the country's challenges within water and sanitation.
“Ethiopia has made remarkable progress in water and sanitation over the last two decades, so there is really something to build on. This project especially focuses on improving the functionality of the water supply by further developing the supply chain with strong private sector participation. This is crucial in order to secure a safe and stable water supply," says Arto Suominen.
The project also aims to demonstrate the effective implementation of the Community Managed Project implementation approach in order to institutionalise this approach within the sector-wide National One WASH Programme implementation through a Consolidated WASH Account system.
